Mr Russell has had an extensive medical training and his experience includes:-
- 5 years training at The London Hospital Medical College to qualify as a doctor in 1994.
- 3 years on a basic surgical training programme including plastic surgery experience to become a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2000.
- 6 years as an orthopaedic specialist registrar on the Northwest Thames Rotation to be included on the specialist register in 2009.
As part of his training, Mr Russell is one of a few surgeons in the country who has been awarded dual six month fellowship posts in foot and ankle surgery:-
The initial 6 month fellowship post was based at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore working with Mr Singh, president of The British Foot and Ankle Society.
Mr Russell was then awarded a travelling international 6 month fellowship post at The Cappagh National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dublin Ireland, with the world renowned surgeon Professor Michael Stephens, past president of The European Foot and Ankle Society.

Mr Russell is married to Nicola and has two daughters. Roland’s interests include rugby, theatre and fine red wines.
